MBB: DOLPHINS SIGN MICHAEL GOODMAN AND JIM JANSON TO LETTERS OF
INTENT FOR 2009-2010
Syracuse, N.Y. - Le Moyne College head men's basketball coach Steve
Evans announced on Thursday, April 30 that high school seniors
Michael Goodman (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers
Academy) and Jim Janson (Scotia,
N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) have signed national letters of
intent to play basketball for the Dolphins in 2009-10.
"We are very excited that Michael Goodman and Jim Janson have
decided to join the Le Moyne basketball program," said Evans, whose
2008-09 team advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship
for the first time under his guidance. "Both are outstanding
individual talents on the court, but more importantly, they are
great character guys as well. The thing that excites our staff
about each of them is their work ethic and that they both hail from
New York State Sectional Championship high school programs. Mike
and Jim are winners who want to get better every day, both as
people and as basketball players."
Goodman, a four-year varsity player for the Brothers, became the
first athlete in CBA basketball history to produce more than 1,000
points and 1,000 rebounds in a high school career. The six-foot,
six-inch senior averaged 14.3 points and 13.2 rebounds per game and
helped lead the Brothers to a Section III title, while his team
posted a 21-5 record. Goodman finished his four-year career with
1,282 points and 1,023 rebounds. Goodman, named to the Syracuse
Post-Standard All-CNY first-team, earned fourth-team
All-State Class AA recognition by the New York State Sportswriters
Association (NYSSWA).
"Signing the all-state local player was our top recruiting
priority," Evans added about Goodman. "Mike is a combination
forward who can make an immediate impact in our program with his
skill, athleticism and rebounding ability, not to mention the
positive local attention he brings to our program. In the same
recruiting class, the addition of Jim Janson's inside presence
alone will provide us with a size advantage at both ends of the
floor. However, Jim's greatest strength is his improvement
potential. As a senior, he shot nearly 60 percent from the field
and scored 413 points, after collecting 274 as a junior and 62 as a
sophomore."
Janson, a six-foot, 10-inch center, transformed himself from a
solid contributor into a dominant force and propelled
Scotia-Glenville to a share of the Foothills Council championship,
its first Section II title in 34 years and a school-record 21
victories. Janson scored 20 or more points nine times and scored in
double figures in all but two games, including a 23-point outing to
go with 15 rebounds in the Section II title game. The Schenectady
Daily Gazette All-Area first team selection averaged 17.2
points, 14.2 rebounds and 5.6 blocked shots in his third varsity
season with the Tartans. Janson also earned ninth-team All-State
Class A acknowledgment by the NYSSWA, first-team league all-star
for the second time, as well as the Section II Class A tournament
MVP.
