MEN’S GOLF OPENS SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT COLGATE INVITATIONAL
Hamilton, N.Y. – Sophomore Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) placed in a tie for 13th with a 154 to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a tie for fifth-place finish at the season-opening Colgate Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,915-yard Seven Oaks Golf Course.
Youngstown State, which was led by medalist Bill Gaffney's one-under par 143, won the team competition by firing a 598 on rounds of 301 and 297. Lehigh finished in second place with a 608 (305-303), while fellow Patriot League member Bucknell placed third with a 618 (308-310). Fordham posted rounds of 320 and 305 to place fourth with a 625. The Dolphins totaled a 312 on Saturday and a 322 on Sunday to finish at 634, while the University of Ottawa also came in at 634 on rounds of 321 and 313.
In his debut with the Dolphins, Edwards carded back-to-back rounds of 77 to land in a five-way tie for 13th place. Over the 36 holes, Edwards registered 21 pars. Senior Josh Cook (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) registered four birdies on Saturday, tied for the second-most among the 54 competitors, en route to shooting a 77. Cook posted an 80 on Sunday to land in a tie for 25th with a 157, which included 20 pars. Freshman Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) opened up his collegiate career by placing in a tie for 34th with a 162 on rounds of 77 and 85. In his first round as a collegian, Fuller registered 11 pars and one of the day's four eagles. Sophomore Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks), Le Moyne's top performer last year, placed in a tie for 40th with a 165 after recording rounds of 81 and 84. Junior Billy Markey (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) joined Molter at 165 after registering rounds of 84 and 81 in his Le Moyne debut. Sophomore Sam Eno (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional), playing individually, finished in a tie for 21st place after carding a 156. Eno recorded 12 pars, tied for the third-most on the day, and one eagle en route to a 76 on Saturday and 11 pars on Sunday on his way to an 80.
Le Moyne returns to action at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship on Sunday, September 16 and Monday, September 17 at Timberlin Golf Course in Berlin, Connecticut.
