LE MOYNE CAPTURES FIRST NORTHEAST-10 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

South Hadley, Mass. - Freshman Kevin Jackson (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) won the individual title with a 144 to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Championships at the par-71, 6,424-yard Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, Mass. on Sunday and Monday. The Dolphins registered a two-day score of 599 to top second-place UMass Lowell by 12 shots for the first conference championship in the program's history.

Jackson, who earned the conference's Gordon McCullough Player of the Year as well as Freshman of the Year honors for his performance, while also landing on the All-Conference First Team, is the sixth Le Moyne golfer to claim medalist honors at the conference championships. Jackson became the first freshman since Le Moyne's Neil Reidy in 1998 to win medalist honors. After landing in second place with a two-under par 69 in the opening round, Jackson carded a 75 on the tournament's second day to finish first.

Junior Tim Martins (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) fired a 149 to earn All-Conference first team honors with a fifth-place finish. Martins, who earned second team honors as a freshman with a seventh-place finish, registered rounds of 71 and 78.

Junior Brian Tischler (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) placed in a tie for 13th with a two-day score of 153 to earn all-conference second team honors. Tischler opened the tournament with a 77 on Sunday and closed with a 76. Freshman Anthony Viskovich (Massena, N.Y./Massena) carded rounds of 76 and 85 to finish tied for 37th at 161, while senior Will Schwartz (Avon Lake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) recorded a 162 to finish in a tie for 40th with rounds of 85 and 77.

The Dolphins, who earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships in May, held a one-shot lead over UMass Lowell after shooting a 293 in the opening round. In the final round, Le Moyne's top four performers totaled a 306 to pull away from the field. Second-year head coach Joe Tesori was honored as the conference's coach of the year for leading his team to the championship.

Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Post Invitational at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course.
