LE MOYNE LEADS AFTER OPENING ROUND AT NORTHEAST-10 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP, DAN MCCARTHY TOPS INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD

MARCELLUS, N.Y. - Senior Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) fired a three-under par 69 top all golfers and lead Le Moyne to an opening round team lead in the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Championship at the 6,711-yard Par 72 Links at Sunset Ridge in Marcellus.

The top six teams enter the final round separated by just four strokes. Le Moyne teamed for a 304 (+16) and holds a one-stroke lead over 20-time champion Bryant and Assumption. Saint Anselm is fourth at 307, while Bentley and Southern New Hampshire tied for fifth at 308. Saint Rose (315, +27) and UMass Lowell are tied for ninth, followed by Pace (325), Saint Michael's (326), Franklin Pierce (334) and American International (359).

McCarthy, the third-place finisher in last season's event, carded one of three rounds below par. The senior's 69 leads Southern New Hampshire's Pat Pelletier (70, -2) by one stroke and Assumption's Robert Younker (71, -1) by two strokes.

Le Moyne also received strong rounds from freshman Tim Martins (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and defending individual champion Joe Tesori (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Martins carded a four-over par 76 to land in a tie for 11^th place, while Tesori is tied for 20^th with a six-over par score of 78.

Play concludes Sunday with golfers teeing off at 8 a.m. Le Moyne carried a six-stroke lead over Bryant into the second round last season, but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the hosts and won the championship on a tiebreak.
