MCCARTHY WINS THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOURNAMENT, DOLPHINS FINISH SIXTH AT PETER KING MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Ocean City, MD - Junior Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./CBA) shot a 5-over par 148 to tie for first place at Dowling College's Peter King Memorial Golf Tournament at the Long Island National Golf Course in Manorville, N.Y. McCarthy tied with Michael Tobiason of Goldey-Beacom College at 148, but was declared the winner, his third win in a row, due to a tie-breaker. Goldey-Beacom topped Pace University by one stroke to take the top team honors with a combined score of 618 (308-310). Le Moyne finished in sixth place for the second consecutive tournament with a team score of 651 (332-319).
McCarthy finished the first round a shot behind Tobiason with a 75 (+4), but came back with a tournament-best round of 73 (+2) on the second day.
McCarthy has won five of nine tournaments this season and placed in the top three a total of seven times. He won the Colgate Invitational and the Mike Bello Invitational, the first two events of the fall season, and has topped the field in the first three spring invitationals. He has a scoring average of 73.3 strokes per round, which is +2 relative to par, for the season.
