Le Moyne to Host Northeast-10 Golf Championship This
Weekend
South Easton, Mass. – For the seventh consecutive year, Le Moyne College will host the Northeast-10 Golf Championship. The two-day tournament returns to The Links at Sunset Ridge in Marcellus, New York and will begin Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m.
Saturday’s first round will be a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m., while play Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m. with tee times determined by Saturday’s results.
The Bulldogs of Bryant University, who enter this year’s event as two-time defending Northeast-10 Tournament team champions, garnered a two-day score of 597 to capture the 2004 trophy.
Assumption College’s Jeff Furtado, who shot a 145 at the 2004 league championship, was awarded the Northeast-10 Gordon McCullough Memorial Player of the Year Award.
Bryant has captured 19 league tournament titles in all under veteran head coach Archie Boulet and was selected as the top pick to win this year’s tournament in the Northeast-10 Golf Coaches’ Preseason Poll.
The Dolphins, who finished with a two-day team score of 617 and were the runner-up team in 2004, return junior Dan McCarthy who shot a two-day total of 153 at last year's tournament and was a runner-up in 2003 tied with Bryant's Dan Falcucci. In 2004, Falcucci again claimed runner-up honors with a 147 two-day score.
Finishing one stroke shy of tying Le Moyne for second, Assumption placed third a year ago with a two-day team score of 618. Pace University totaled for 628 to finish fourth, while Southern New Hampshire University came in fifth one point behind the Setters with a team total of 629.
Saint Anselm College (637), The College of Saint Rose (643), Bentley College (658), The University of Massachusetts Lowell (662), Franklin Pierce College (668), Saint Michael’s College (669) and American International College (690) rounded out the championship scoring.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
