Baseball Top Stories![]() May 6, 2008HAYNES LEADS DOLPHINS EXPLOSION IN THE EIGHTH.SYRACUSE, NY-Junior Chris Haynes blasted a three run homer to right center to give the Dolphins their first lead of the game. The Dolphins would put pressure on the Great Danes pitching staff early in the eighth inning scattering eight runs on six hits. The Dolphins freshman Corey Nelson would pick up the no decision. It was sophomore Tom McDermott who would shut down Albany through three innings of scoreless work, striking out five. The Dolphins capture their second win this season over Albany and improve to 24-20 on the season. Albany drops to 12-35-1. [more] ![]() May 4, 2008TARDIFFS STRONG PERFORMANCE ON THE MOUND DEALS FAIRFIELD A 7-2 DEFEAT.FAIRFIELD, CT Le Moyne right-hander Jeff Tardiff guided the Dolphins to a 7-2 victory on Sunday at Alumni Field. Tardiff pitched six innings, holding the Stags to one earned run and three hits. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 24-20 on the season. Fairfield drops to 14-30. The Phins took game on 4-3 and dropped the nightcap 6-2. Le Moyne moves to 23-20 on the season while Fairfield improves their record to 14-29. [more] ![]() Apr 30, 2008DOLPHINS AVENGE BEARCATS 18-2.VESTAL, NY-The Dolphins exploded in the top of the second inning scattering ten hits and producing nine runs to avenge the Binghamton Bearcats. Earlier this season the Bearcats defeated the Dolphins 12-10 at Dick Rockwell Field. The Dolphins would scatter twenty-one hits generating eighteen runs in the ballgame. Sophomore Daniel Tunison (3-2) would receive his third win of the season in relief. The right-hander would toss 2.1 solid scoreless innings. The Dolphins pick up their 22nd win of the season, improving them to 22-19. The loss sends the Bearcats to 19-22 on the season. Despite Chris Edmondsons two-out three run triple in the bottom of the ninth to give the Le Moyne a 11-10 lead, the Dolphins fell 12-11 after Siena rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth. Le Moyne falls to 21-19 on the season. Led by Moises Riveras four hits and three RBI, Siena improves to 19-24. The Dolphins defeated the Marist Red Foxes 12-3 in a scheduled nine-inning game and 6-5 in a seven-inning game. The Dolphins improve to 18-16 on the season, and send the Red Foxes to 14-18. Game three starter, Daniel Tunison, and the Dolphins will host the last game of the three game series Sunday at Dick Rockwell Field. First pitch is set for noon. The scheduled double header was a pair of seven inning games. Clutch hitting in game one of the double headers was sparked by Robby Perez and Aaron DiFruscio. The game was knotted at three by a Perez RBI run tying single through the box in the bottom of the sixth inning. Following Perezs at bat, DiFruscios pinch hit RBI single turned out to be the game winning hit. The double header sweep improves the Dolphins to 16-16. The Big Red fall to 10-19 on the season. PETERS SWEEP; ADDING 16 HITS TO THEIR SERIES TOTAL 68 HITS.JERSEY CITY, NJ-The Le Moyne College Dolphins completed the three game series sweep with an eight to four defeat against St. Peters. Senior catcher Phil St. Amant continued swinging his hot bat delivering three hits in five at bats. St. Amant collected twelve hits in the series (12-17) and nine RBIs. Sophomore Chris Edmondson also added three hits of his own (3-4 2RBIs). The Dolphins would scatter sixteen more hits to their sixty-eight series hit total. It was sophomore Luke Nellis who would pick up the win in his impressive two scoreless innings of work. The Dolphins improve to 14-16, while the Peacocks fall to 13-17. In game one, the Dolphins defeated the Peacocks 20-1. Le Moyne would put up a program record 29 runs in game two in topping St. Peters 29-7. With the victories, Le Moyne improves to 13-16 on the season. St. Peters falls to 13-16 on the year. First pitch of the Saturday, April 12TH double header is set for noon. Owens has announced junior Eric Beaulac to take the series opener. Beaulac is coming off a seven inning Niagara shut out. Through seven innings the hard throwing right hander only allowed one hit. Freshman Cory Nelson will throw the tail end of the double header, while sophomore Daniel Tunison will start and close out the last game of the three game series. As of April 9TH the Peacocks are 12-14 (2-5 MAAC), while the Dolphins are 11-16. [more] ![]() Apr 6, 2008LE MOYNE LOSES RUBBER MATCH 8-6 TO NIAGARA.NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. The Le Moyne College Dolphins saw their early 5-0 lead fade away heading into the fifth inning. The Purple Eagles rallied back in the late innings to defeat the Dolphins 8-6. Niagara improves to 12-11 with the win, sending Le Moyne to 11-16. Niagara clawed their way back into the game with exceptional bullpen pitching and key two run RBI singles from Chris Leendertse and Frank Kurnik. Both Niagara players helped generate the seven unanswered runs in the 8-6 victory. Junior Matt Nandin would lead all Dolphins with his three hits at the plate (3-5 1 RBI). The Le Monye College Dolphins split with the University of Niagara Purple Eagles at Sal Maglie Stadium. Junior RHP Eric Beaulac picked up the win in the first game. Beaulac threw a one hitter through seven innings. Freshman Jeff Tardiff came in for two innings of relief to receive the save. Both Beaulac and Tardiff held Niagara scoreless. Sophomore Luke Nellis was unsuccessful picking up the win in the second game. The Dolphins improve to 11-15 after the split, sending the Purple Eagles to 11-11. The Dolphins improve to 10-14 with the win, sending the Big Red to 6-11, (0-2). The game would head into extra innings tied 5-5. It was sophomore Chris Edmondson who would initiate the Dolphins offensive power surge with a leadoff triple to right center field in the top of the tenth inning. Edmondson's triple sparked a six run attack. Freshman Jeff Tardiff would pick up the win in relief with his 3.1 innings of work, only allowing four hits on two runs. Freshman Mike Carrol would receive the loss. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday April 2nd, but inclement weather and field conditions postponed the game. The Cornell Big Red competes in the Ivy League conference under head coach Tom Ford. Ford enters his seventeenth season with the Big Red. Currently, the 6-10 (0-2) Big Red look for redemption from the previous season, against the 9-14 Dolphins.
