LIU POST RALLIES FOR 5-3 WIN OVER BASEBALL
Brookville, N.Y. – Right fielder Angel Pimentel scored three runs to lead LIU Post to a 5-3 come-from-behind win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Dolphins opened the game's scoring with two runs on one hit in the second inning. Freshman third baseman Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) drew a walk with one out and moved to second on a single to center by senior catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley). After Swetman stole third and Stinson stole second, freshman first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) reached on an error by the shortstop to drive in Swetman. Stinson then scored on a groundout by graduate student second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College).
LIU Post got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning without getting a hit. Pimentel led off the frame by drawing a walk and then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. First baseman David Grovenveld then grounded out to the pitcher to knock in Pimentel.
Le Moyne pushed its lead back to two with a run on two hits in the fourth inning. Stinson singled to left field with two outs and then took second on a wild pitch. Wright then singled to left field to plate Stinson.
The Pioneers evened the score at three apiece with two runs on one hit in the sixth inning. Third baseman Kevin Chenicek singled to right center to lead off the frame and moved to second as Pimentel drew a walk. After a passed ball moved each runner up a base and a Le Moyne pitching change, Grovenveld lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Chenicek. Pimentel then raced home on a wild pitch to tie the score.
LIU Post took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runs on two hits and a Le Moyne error. Pimentel opened the inning by drawing a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Grovenveld followed with a single through the left side to drive in Pimentel with the game-winning run. After designated hitter John Bellock reached on a fielder's choice as Grovenveld was thrown out at third, shortstop Matt Bowers singled to the shortstop and Bellock moved to third and scored on a throwing error by the first baseman.
Redshirt freshman John Mildner (Newton, Mass./Catholic Memorial/UMass) took the loss in relief after giving up one run over two innings of work. Rafael Martinez earned the win out of the bullpen after striking out three batters over two innings on the mound. Anthony Zapulla earned the save by retiring all three batters he faced.
Le Moyne (5-7) returns to the diamond on Friday for the start of a three-day series at Queens. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
