BSB: #1 GEORGIA SHUTS OUT DOLPHINS, 12-0, AT FOLEY FIELD

Athens, Ga. - Rich Poythress homered and drove in five runs and Chase Hawkins allowed just one hit over five innings to lead #1 nationally-ranked Georgia to a 12-0 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Wednesday evening at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with single runs in the first and third innings. Michael Demperio drew a one-out walk in the first inning and then moved to third on an error by freshman right-handed pitcher Derek Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie). Colby May then singled to right field to plate Demperio. May drove in his second run of the contest with a single to left field in the third inning to plate Johnathan Taylor, who reached on a leadoff single and then stole second base.

Georgia (14-0), off to its best start in the program's history, broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning. Demperio walked and May picked up his game-best third hit following a fly out to begin the inning. After a Le Moyne pitching change, Demperio and May each stole a base before Poythress singled to left field to knock in the duo. After stealing second base, Poythress scored on a single to left field by Bryce Massanari. Freshman Chase Davidson, a third round draft pick (88th overall) by the Houston Astros in the 2008 MLB draft, put his team ahead 8-0 with a three-run homer to right center to plate Massanari and Joey Lewis, who reached on a single to center.

Following a pair of scoreless innings, the Bulldogs tacked on four runs on four hits. Matt Cerione and Lyle Allen singled around a fielder's choice by David Thomas to start the frame. Demperio then singled to left field to knock in Thomas from third. After a groundout moved Demperio and Allen up a base, Poythress blasted a three-run homer to right field for his second round-tripper of the series.

Hawkins, a freshman left-hander making his first career start, struck out one batter and allowed just one hit and one walk to register his first win of the season. Zielinski suffered the loss for the Dolphins, yielding four runs on five hits and five walks over four and two-thirds innings. Sophomore third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) and freshman first baseman Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) recorded Le Moyne's only two hits.

Le Moyne (2-8) returns to action for a three-game series at Troy starting on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
