BSB: DOLPHINS HOLD OFF #4 FLORIDA STATE, 3-1, IN COMPLETION OF FRIDAY NIGHT’S SUSPENDED GAME

Tallahassee, Fla. – Junior right-hander Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) tossed four scoreless innings as the Le Moyne College baseball team held off fourth-ranked Florida State, 3-1, in the completion of Friday night's suspended game at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The series-opening game was suspended on Friday night after five innings due to poor field conditions.

After three scoreless innings on Friday night, the Dolphins struck for three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) led off the frame with a single to center off former high school teammate Sean Gilmartin. Following a wild pitch that moved him to second, Wiley advanced to third on a sac bunt by sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) then singled to right field to drive in Wiley. Senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead by blasting the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left field for his 10th home run of the season.

The Seminoles got on the board with one run on two hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Preseason First Team All-American Tyler Holt led off with a single down the right field line. Two batters later, preseason All-American Mike McGee doubled off the wall in center field to drive in Holt. Junior southpaw Cory Nelson (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) got out of the inning by inducing a pair of foul outs.

When play resumed on Saturday, Wiley and Botsford singled off new Seminoles pitcher Geoff Parker. After Wiley was thrown out trying to steal third, Marra walked, but was picked off first, allowing Botsford to move to third. Parker got out of the jam by inducing a fly out.

The Seminoles advanced a runner to third base in the sixth inning and loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but Tardiff was able to keep Florida State off the scoreboard.

Nelson picked up his second win of the year after scattering seven hits over five innings, while striking out one batter. Tardiff allowed two hits and struck out one batter over the final four innings to earn his first save of the season. Gilmartin, a preseason All-American and Tardiff's teammate with the NECBL's North Shore Navigators last summer, struck out five batters in dropping his fourth game of the year, while yielding three runs on five hits. Wiley finished the game with three of Le Moyne's eight hits.

Le Moyne (25-23), which improved to 3-4 against ranked opponents this year, plays the second game of the series with the Seminoles on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
