BSB: CINCINNATI PULLS AWAY FOR 13-6 WIN OVER DOLPHINS

Cincinnati, Ohio – Jimmy Jacquot had three hits, including a two-run homer, and three runs batted in to lead Cincinnati to a 13-6 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Wednesday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard in the first inning with two runs on three hits. Sophomore right fielder Matt Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) led off the game with a bunt single down the third-base line. After Ciraco was wiped off the basepaths on a double play and sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) singled to center, senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) blasted his 33rd career home run over the fence in left field.

The Bearcats cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning with a two-out solo home run to right center by T.J. Jones.

The Dolphins got the run back in the top of the second inning with a run on one hit. Senior center fielder Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) singled and freshman first baseman Kody O’Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Following a sacrifice bunt that moved up each base-runner, freshman catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Paino.

Cincinnati took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs on three hits. Jones walked and moved to third on a hit-and-run single through the right side by Logan Jackson. After Chris Peters walked to load the bases, Jacquot singled to third base to drive in Jones. Beach Brooks followed with a single off the wall to plate Jackson and Peters. Sophomore lefty Mark Kuzma (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) got out of the jam by inducing a double play by Kevin Johnson and a pop out by Justin Riddell.

Le Moyne regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning with two runs on four hits. Redshirt freshman third baseman Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) singled through the left side and stole second base. Stinson then singled up the middle to plate Mahoney with the tying run. After a single by Ciraco and a double play, Marra singled up the middle to drive in Ciraco from second base.

The Bearcats evened the score with a run on one hit in the bottom of the frame. Jamel Scott reached on a bunt single and proceeded to steal second base. Following a ground out to move Scott to third and a Le Moyne pitching change, Jones recorded a sac fly to knock in Scott.

The Dolphins took the lead back with one run on two hits in the sixth. Sophomore pinch-hitter Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led off the inning with a single through the left side. Paino then doubled down the left field line to score Botsford and put Le Moyne up 6-5.

Cincinnati answered back with two runs on three hits in its half of the sixth to take the lead for good. Jacquot doubled with one out and Cory Hough followed by drawing a walk. Johnson then singled through the right side to drive in Scott. After a pitching change by the Dolphins, Riddell singled to third base to plate Hough.

In the eighth inning, the Bearcats added six runs on four hits and two errors. Peters singled through the right side to lead off the inning and Jacquot followed with a homer to left center to give Cincinnati a 9-6 lead. After a double by Hough led to another Le Moyne pitching change, Hough advanced to third on a balk before Johnson walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Riddell then singled through the left side to drive in Hough. On a wild pitch that allowed Riddell to advance to second, Johnson was able to score from third on a throwing error by the catcher. Following a walk to Scott, a pitching change and a strikeout, Jones reached on a fielder’s choice, while Riddell was able to score from second base as Scott advanced to second on a throwing error. After a walk to Jackson loaded the bases, Peters drove in Scott with a sac fly to right field for the game’s final run.

Andrew Strenge earned the win for the Bearcats by tossing three and one-third innings out of the bullpen, while allowing just one run on five hits and recording four strikeouts. Freshman Casey Cannon (Manasquan, N.J./Saint Rose/U. of Delaware) took the loss after yielding two runs on two hits in an inning on the mound. Ciraco and Marra each registered four hits and a run scored on the afternoon, while Paino added a pair of hits.

Le Moyne (5-7), which recorded a season-high 15 hits in the contest, returns to action on Friday against Purdue at 11:00 a.m. in the opening game of the Dunn Hospitality Diamond Classic hosted by the University of Evansville.
