Cary, N.C. - Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) went 4-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 13-7 win over the University of Illinois at Chicago to open the season in the USA Baseball Complex Classic at the USA Baseball Complex.

The Dolphins opened the game with two runs on two hits in the first inning. Sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led off with a walk and stole second following a pair of outs. Senior center fielder Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) then doubled to drive in Botsford. Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) followed with a double down the right field line to plate Paino.

The Flames evened the score at two apiece with single runs in each of the first two innings. Steve McGuiggan opened the first inning with a double down the left field line, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Andy Leonard. In the second inning, Matt Serna walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Jason Ganek walked, Ryan Boss singled back to the pitcher and advanced to second on a throwing error, allowing Serna to score from second.

The Dolphins regained the lead in the top of the third, but the Flames countered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs to take their first lead. Marra singled through the left side with two outs. After advancing to second on a passed ball and moving to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Marra scored on a wild pitch. John Rosinski led off his team's half of the third with a single to right center and came around to score on a double down the left field line by Chris Rutta. Steven Humble then singled through the right side to push Rutta to third. Serna followed with a single up the middle to knock in Rutta and advance Humble to second. Following a sac bunt, Boss grounded out to third to push across Humble.

UIC increased its lead to 6-3 with a run in the fourth inning. McGuiggan singled up the middle to lead off the frame and stole second and third around a ground out. Rosinski then singled through the left side to drive in McGuiggan.

Le Moyne took the lead with four runs on two hits and two errors in the fifth inning. Sophomore designated hitter Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) reached on an error to start the inning. After senior Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) singled to left field, Ciraco advanced to third on a fly out. Marra then reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to knock home Ciraco. Senior first baseman Rich Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) then blasted a three-run home run to right center to give the Dolphins a 7-6 advantage.

The Dolphins added a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Wiley singled and stole second to lead off the frame. After a strikeout, Ciraco singled through the right side to plate Wiley. Edmondson then doubled to right field to push across Ciraco.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Le Moyne tacked on three runs on two hits in the eighth inning and one run on two hits in the ninth. Wiley walked and Botsford singled through the left side to open the eight inning. After a Ciraco sac bunt and an intentional walk to Edmondson, the eighth of his career, Wiley scored on a passed ball with Botsford and Edmondson each moving up a base. Following a line out, Marra singled through the left side to drive in Botsford and Edmondson. Redshirt freshman Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led off the ninth with a single and moved to second on a ground out. Wiley then singled to right field to drive in Mahoney.

Junior Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, N.Y./Framingham) tossed the first five innings for the Dolphins to pick up the victory. The six-foot righty allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits, while striking out four batters, to win his sixth straight decision dating back to last season. Junior lefty Tom McDermott (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four, while allowing just one hit. Freshman Kevin Carroll (Jamesville, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) pitched the ninth for the Dolphins. Chris Kovacevich suffered the loss for the Flames after allowing nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits over six innings pitched.
