OWENS' DOLPHINS, ENGLAND'S PEACOCKS READY TO LOCK HORNS.
SYRACUSE,NY-The Le Moyne College Dolphins will be traveling to Jersey City, New Jersey this weekend for a three game series against the St. Peter's Peacocks. First pitch of the Saturday, April 12TH double header is set for noon. Owens has announced junior Eric Beaulac to take the series opener. Beaulac is coming off a seven inning Niagara shut out. Through seven innings the hard throwing right hander only allowed one hit. Freshman Cory Nelson will throw the tail end of the double header, while sophomore Daniel Tunison will start and close out the last game of the three game series. As of April 9TH the Peacocks are 12-14 (2-5 MAAC), while the Dolphins are 11-16.
Derek England, 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC ) baseball coach of the year, took the 11-41 (3-23 MAAC) 2006 Peacocks to an impressive 23-29 (13-13 MAAC) record in his 2007 campaign. As of April 9TH ,the Peacocks are coming off a three-game losing streak with the Fairfield Stags. The Peacocks will try and end their current slide against Coppin State April 10TH, before hosting a three game series with the Dolphins. Currently, as of April 9TH, the Peacocks have put together an overall record of 12-14 (4-5 MAAC). In the 2007 campaign the Dolphins swept the Peacocks in a three game series.
The Peacocks seem to rely behind the senior arms of Chris Innis and Eric Miksitz. Both Innis and Miksitz average close to a strikeout per inning. Innis received the loss in his last outing against the Fairfield Stags. In Innis solid performance, he only allowed two runs with eight strikeouts to tie Saint Peter's strikeout record of 202 career K's. Currently the RHP has accumulated a 3-2 record, and a 5.40 ERA. In his 36.2 innings of work, Innis has averaged a little over a strike out per inning (36.2 IP/39 SO). Milksitz has thrown 33.2 innings, compiling a 6.15 ERA and a 1-2 record.
Offensively the Peacocks like to stay aggressive on the base paths, swiping 36-47 bases. Freshman Michael LaCava leads the team with eight bags. The Peacocks seem to focus their offense around timely hitting and gap-to-gap production. As a team the Peacocks are hitting .279 from the plate, while holding their opponents to a .280 average. Senior Joe Ramano and junior Mike McGuire top the Peacocks lineup in batting average. Romano leads all Peacocks with a .347 average and a team high 33 hits. McGuire leads all Peacocks with 22 RBIs and tied with John Lynch for two home runs. McGuire is currently second on the team, with a .341 batting average.
The Dolphins enter the three-game series on a current two game losing streak. As a team the Dolphins are hitting .299 from the plate, while holding their opponents to a .278 average. The Dolphins' speedy Stephen Crawford tops all Dolphins with eleven bags. Offensively it has been consistent hitting from junior Matt Nandin and senior Stephen Crawford the entire season. Nandin enters the three game series leading all Dolphins with a .389 batting average, while Crawford sits close behind at a .382 batting average. The Dolphins have been known to blasts balls from gap-to-gap and hit moon shots out of the ballpark. Sophomore Chris Edmondson leads all Dolphins with seven home runs. Senior Corey O'Neill sits close behind at four. As a team the Dolphins have compiled a 5.43 team ERA. Not only has the Dolphins senior catcher Phil St. Amant kept Owens' pitching staff in check on the field with his impressive defense, but St. Amant has showcased his abilities at the plate as well. The consistent senior comes into the three game series with a .306 average, two home runs and 11 RBIs.
