LE MOYNE RALLIES TO DEFEAT LONGWOOD 6-5; DOLPHINS FALL IN GAME TWO 3-2.
Farmville, VA - The Le Moyne College baseball team continued their series with Longwood University on Saturday. The Dolphins and Lancers split the doubleheader with a pair of one-run decisions. Le Moyne moves to 1-2 on the year as Longwood improves to 2-1.
In game one, the Dolphins entered the top of the ninth inning trailing 5-3. After back-to-back singles by Matt Nandin and Phil St. Amant and sacrifice bunt by Robbie Perez, Chris Haynes tied the game at 5-5 on a two-RBI double to right field. Stephen Crawford would push across the go ahead run as he plated Haynes on a two-out, single to centerfield. Sophomore Luke Nellis would close the door in the ninth inning as he pitched five strong innings out of the bullpen, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Daniel Tunison (1-0) picked up the victory as he completed four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs.
Despite a strong pitching performance by freshman Jeff Tardiff (0-1) who held the Lancers to six hits and two earned runs over six innings, the Dolphins dropped game two of Saturday's doubleheader to Longwood 3-2. The Dolphins would jump out front 2-0 in the third inning as St. Amant and Corey O'Neill collected RBI hits. Longwood would slowly chip away at the Dolphin lead, scoring in the third, fifth and sixth innings. A two-out RBI double by Paul Heidler II would plate the winning run for the Lancers.
Le Moyne and Longwood complete their four-game series on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Senior T.J. Sheridan is scheduled to make the start on the mound for the Dolphins.
