THE 61ST SEASON OF LE MOYNE BASEBALL OPENS ON FRIDAY AT LONGWOOD

SYRACUSE, NY - The Le Moyne's baseball team will begin the 61st season in program history as they travel to Longwood University for a weekend series. The Dolphins are looking to get off to a good start coming off last season where they went 34-19 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third time in five seasons.

Le Moyne is under the direction of ninth year head coach Steve Owens who boosts a 502-228-1 record in 16 seasons as a college baseball coach making him one of the youngest coaches to reach the 500 win plateau in the country. In each of his eight seasons at Le Moyne, Owens has seen at least one of his players moved on to the professional ranks. He currently holds the 8th highest winning percentage among all active Division I coaches in the country.

Longwood University comes into this match-up with Le Moyne after a 34-19 record in 2007. Their skipper, Charles "Buddy" Bolding, sports a record of 761-390-3 (.661) in 29 seasons with the tradition-rich lancers. Longwood's most notable alum, Michael Tucker was a 12-year MLB veteran (1995-2006) and the only Longwood Olympian (1992) in history.

Junior right-hander Eric Beaulac (8-1, 2.94 ERA, 81 K, 50 BB) will get the start in the season opener. On Saturday, sophomore Daniel Tunison (4-1, 2.72, 46.1 IP, 24 SO) and freshman Jeff Tardiff will take the mound for Le Moyne. Senior left-hander T.J. Sheridan (06 season: 8-1, 2.76 ERA, 88 K, 37 BB) will make is first start since the 2006 season on Sunday.

Longwood is led by junior outfielder Robbie Bailey (.392, 6 HR, 23 RBI) who led the Lancers in batting average (.392), hits (67), total bases (99), stolen bases (20-28) and multiple-hit games (19) during the 2007 season.

Following the four-game series with Longwood, Le Moyne travels to take on Oral Roberts in a three-game series on February 29th - March 2nd.
