THE 61ST SEASON OF LE MOYNE BASEBALL OPENS ON FRIDAY AT LONGWOOD
SYRACUSE, NY - The Le Moyne's baseball team will begin the 61st
season in program history as they travel to Longwood University for
a weekend series. The Dolphins are looking to get off to a good
start coming off last season where they went 34-19 and reached the
NCAA Tournament for the third time in five seasons.
Le Moyne is under the direction of ninth year head coach Steve
Owens who boosts a 502-228-1 record in 16 seasons as a college
baseball coach making him one of the youngest coaches to reach the
500 win plateau in the country. In each of his eight seasons at Le
Moyne, Owens has seen at least one of his players moved on to the
professional ranks. He currently holds the 8th highest winning
percentage among all active Division I coaches in the country.
Longwood University comes into this match-up with Le Moyne after a
34-19 record in 2007. Their skipper, Charles "Buddy" Bolding,
sports a record of 761-390-3 (.661) in 29 seasons with the
tradition-rich lancers. Longwood's most notable alum, Michael
Tucker was a 12-year MLB veteran (1995-2006) and the only Longwood
Olympian (1992) in history.
Junior right-hander Eric Beaulac (8-1, 2.94 ERA, 81 K, 50 BB) will
get the start in the season opener. On Saturday, sophomore Daniel
Tunison (4-1, 2.72, 46.1 IP, 24 SO) and freshman Jeff Tardiff will
take the mound for Le Moyne. Senior left-hander T.J. Sheridan (06
season: 8-1, 2.76 ERA, 88 K, 37 BB) will make is first start since
the 2006 season on Sunday.
Longwood is led by junior outfielder Robbie Bailey (.392, 6 HR, 23
RBI) who led the Lancers in batting average (.392), hits (67),
total bases (99), stolen bases (20-28) and multiple-hit games (19)
during the 2007 season.
Following the four-game series with Longwood, Le Moyne travels to
take on Oral Roberts in a three-game series on February 29th -
March 2nd.
