LE MOYNE CAPTURES 2007 MAAC REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH 13-4 VICTORY OVER IONA IN HOME FINALE.

SYRACUSE, NY - The Le Moyne baseball team captured the MAAC regular season title for the second consecutive season after defeating Iona in their home finale 13-4 at Dick Rockwell Field.  The win improves the Dolphins record to 31-17 on the season and 22-3 in the MAAC.

The Gaels struck for two runs in the top of the first inning of starter Daniel Tunison (Bath, N.Y. /Bath/Haverling). Allie Abbatiello drove a double to left center to drive in one run and Andrew Wernicki followed with a RBI single to right center.  Iona would strike again for one run in the second inning on Nick Capowski's home run to left.

The Dolphins rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the second keyed by freshman Alex Del Valle's (Miami, Fla. /Columbus) RBI hit by pitch and Chris Edmondson's (Johnson City, N.Y. /Johnson City) RBI single to left center.

Le Moyne would explode for three runs in the seventh inning on Robbie Perez's (Miami, FL /Belen Jesuit Prep) two RBI double down the left field line.  The Dolphins would put the game out of reach in the eighth when Corey O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y. /McQuaid Jesuit) connected for his fourth home run of the season to drive in three runs.

Luke Nellis (Fonda, N.Y. /Fonda-Fultonville) improved his mark on the season to 4-1 as he earned the victory in relief of Tunison.

Le Moyne will enter the MAAC Tournament as the #1 overall seed. The tournament will run from May 24th to the 26th at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY. A complete bracket will be released by the MAAC following the completion of the regular season this weekend.
