BOBBY BLEVINS STRIKES OUT 15 IN GAME ONE; DOLPHINS TAKE TWO FROM SAINT PETER'S.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Le Moyne Dolphins took two games from Saint Peter's in a MAAC doubleheader at Dick Rockwell Field on Saturday. The sweep improves the Dolphins' record to 15-15 on the season and 10-2 in conference. The loss drops Saint Peter's to 17-19 on the year and 7-7 in conference.
In game one, starting pitcher Bobby Blevins (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) set the tone in the first inning. He struck out the first three batters he faced and recorded his first six outs via strikeouts. The Dolphins' offense came alive in the sixth by plating their first two runs. Freshman Chris Altieri (Miami, FL/Belen Jesuit Prep) led off the inning with a single to right center. Two batters later, Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) plated him from second with a single to left. Phil St. Amant (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) followed with a RBI single to right to score Nandin. Mike Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) rounded out the Le Moyne attack by driving an Eric Miksitz's fastball over the right field fence for his first home run of the season.
Blevins went the distance to record his fifth win of the season, scattering seven hits and only allowing one walk. His 15 strikeouts are the second most all-time for a single game. Saint Peter's left-hander Eric Miksitz went eight strong, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
In game two, St. Amant singled in Steve Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Eastridge) in bottom of the first as the Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Pinch hitter Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) delivered Le Moyne's second run of the game on a solo home run to right field. Saint Peter's countered with a solo home run of their own off the bat of clean up hitter Kevin Kallert to pull the Peacocks within one at 2-1. The Dolphins struck for two in their half of the sixth on a St. Amant RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Corey O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit).
Sophomore right-hander Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) picked up his fifth win of the season as he pitched five and a third innings, striking out seven. Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, FL/Englewood) picked up his seventh save of the year as he closed the door on Saint Peter's in the sixth and seventh inning.
Le Moyne will face Saint Peter's in the third and final game of the series on Sunday at Alliance Bank Stadium. The game will begin at noon and will be broadcast on Time Warner 26.
