BASEBALL: BLEVINS CLAIMS LE MOYNE STRIKEOUT CROWN, DOLPHINS TAKE DOUBLEHEADER FROM FAIRFIELD

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Bobby Blevins (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) shattered the college's all-time strikeout record and junior Phil St. Amant (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) paced the offensive attack as Le Moyne (8-14, 4-1 MAAC) took both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Fairfield (4-12, 3-2 MAAC) at Dick Rockwell Field. Blevins struck out 10 in the first game, a 4-2 victory, to break a tie with Brian Mattoon '03 on Le Moyne's strikeout list. In game two, the Dolphins squeezed out a 2-0 win as sophomore Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning to earn the win.

Blevins (2-2) pitched eight solid innings, surrendering only two earned runs on seven hits, to run his program-best career win total to 25. His 250 career strikeouts bested Mattoon's benchmark of 240. After falling behind by two runs in the second inning, St. Amant crushed his second home run of the season over the left field fence and in the fifth, he ripped a double down the right field line to plate sophomore Mike Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and junior Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport). Pinch hitter Chris Haynes (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) drove in pinch runner Chris Altieri (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to tack on an insurance run for the Dolphins. Senior Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) struck out one in the ninth to nail down his fourth save of the season.

In the back end of the afternoon doubleheader, Beaulac (2-1) tossed 5.1 innings of one-hit ball and fanned eight batters. He no-hit the Stags for five innings before right fielder Brian Rudolph laced a sixth-inning single up the middle. Junior Stephen Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Eastridge) collected two hits in game two and scored a first inning run on Corey O'Neill's (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) fielder's choice. In the fourth, Haynes singled in St. Amant to run the Dolphins lead to two. In his second appearance of the day, Woods relieved Beaulac in the sixth and retired all five of his batters to earn his fifth save.

Sophomore Brandon Otto (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) will take the mound Sunday as Le Moyne tries to earn its first series sweep of the season. First pitch for Sunday's conference game is slated for 11 a.m.
