DOLPHINS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AT RIDER
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Junior Stephen Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Eastridge) went 4-for-8 to lead Le Moyne to a doubleheader split with Rider University in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball. Le Moyne took game one 5-2, while the Broncs captured game two 7-4 to avoid the sweep. The Dolphins record goes to 4-14 on the season, while Rider moves to 3-12.
In the first game, the Broncs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout and a run scoring single to right field. The game remained 2-0 until Le Moyne plated two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth inning. Junior Corey O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) drove in two runs after Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) doubled and Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) walked to lead off the fourth inning.
The Dolphins took the lead in the fifth inning on a Crawford single to left center that scored Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, N.Y./C-NS) from third. Le Moyne added two runs in the sixth on an RBI double to right field by Mike Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) that scored Phil St. Amant (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and an RBI groundout.
Sophomore Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) went five innings and struck out four in picking up his first win of the season. Senior Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, FL/ Englewood) struck out three batters in 1.1 innings of work to record his third save of the season.
In game two, Le Moyne scored a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. St. Amant doubled down the right field line to plate Parrino in the first inning. The Dolphins scored their second run on an RBI groundout by Alex Del Valle (Miami, FL/Columbia).
The Broncs took the lead 3-2 in the third inning by scoring a run in the second and two in the third. They went up 4-2 with an RBI single by Nick Wojnowski in the bottom of the fourth. Le Moyne cut the lead to 4-3 with an RBI single by Parrino that scored Crawford from third in the top of the fifth. The Dolphins tied the score at 4 on a single by St. Amant plating Crawford.
Rider responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the game's scoring. Sean Olson doubled to center scoring two in keying a three run rally.
Brandon Otto (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) went three innings for the Dolphins allowing only one earned run. Freshman Luke Nellis (Fonda, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) took the loss giving up five hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings of relief.
Le Moyne travels to Buffalo on Wednesday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The Dolphins open the home portion of their season on Saturday with a MAAC doubleheader against Fairfield at 12 p.m.
