BASEBALL: LE MOYNE TRAVELS TO BALL STATE TOURNAMENT
The Le Moyne Dolphins (2-10 overall) are heading to Ball State
(Muncie, Indiana) this weekend for the Ball State Tournament. This
is the Dolphins last tune up before conference play starts next
weekend. Leading the way offensively this weekend for Le Moyne will
be junior shortstop Andy Parrino (Brockport,
N.Y./Brockport) with a .396 batting average and three
runs batted in. He has also scored six runs and has one of the
Dolphins four home runs this season. Helping out Parrino,
offensively will be junior third baseman Stephen
Crawford (Webster, N.Y./ Eastridge). Crawford has a
batting average of .255 with four runs batted in, six runs scored
and a team leading five stolen base.
Le Moyne starts the weekend off Friday against the Bowling Green Falcons (7-5 overall), where senior pitcher Bobby Blevins (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) will be making the start. Blevins thus far has posted a 1-1 record with a 3.43 earned run average. He has started strong for the Dolphins with 16 strikeouts in only 21.0 innings pitched. Holding down the fort for the Falcons is sophomore infielder Ryan Shay with a .375 batting average. He has also registered 10 runs batted in and has scored seven runs.
Saturday, the Le Moyne Dolphins match up again tournament the host, Ball State Cardinals (5-9 overall). Making the start for Le Moyne will be the right handed sophomore Eric Beaulac (Troy N.Y./Troy). Beaulac has a record of 0-1 this season with an earned run average of 7.07; he has also posted 15 strikeouts in 14.0 innings. The Cardinals big bat going into this weekend is junior Matt Stoeklen. Stoeklen is batting .357 with seven runs batted in and seven runs scored. He also has belted two home runs, which is tied for the team-high.
The Dolphins starter for Sunday's game against the Evansville Purple Aces (9-7 overall) will be sophomore Brandon Otto (Cicero, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse). The sophomore has a record of 0-3, but has punched out 10 batters in 11.2 innings pitched. Evansville's leader on the team is junior outfielder Jim Viscomi, who has a batting average of .344 with 7 runs batted in and 12 runs scored on the season.
