CHARLOTTE SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER WITH LE MOYNE 6-2, 5-1
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Spencer Steedley and Matt Foard collected
pitching victories as Charlotte swept a baseball doubleheader
against Le Moyne 6-2, 5-1 at the Ballpark at Winthrop University.
The Niners improve to 13-3 on the season and a perfect 10-0 at home
in three different ballparks in 2007. Le Moyne (2-9) has dropped
nine of its last 10 games, while the Niners have won their last six
games, and eight of their last nine contests.
Charlotte backstop Kris Rochelle went 3-for-4 in the
doubleheader with a pair of doubles in game one, an RBI and two
runs scored on Saturday. He is five-for-seven in the series, with
an RBI and three runs scored. Charlotte jumped on Le Moyne early in
both games and never lost the lead after the first inning.
In the opener, sophomore outfielder Mike Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) went 2-for-3 with his second double of the season. The Dolphins were outhit 9-6. Starter Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) was touched up for six runs on nine hits in four innings. Freshman righty reliever Dan Tunison (Bath, N.Y./Bath-Haverling) kept the 49ers at bay, posting two scoreless and hitless innings. Tunison fanned two in his third appearance of the season.
In the second game, junior shortstop Andy Parrino (Brockport,
N.Y./Brockport) provided Le Moyne's only run on a solo home run.
Parrino is hitting a team-best .386 in the first 11 games of the
season. Freshman southpaw Michael Gedman (Framingham, Mass./Loomis
Chaffee) took the loss on the mound. He allowed five runs on seven
hits in three and 2/3 innings.
The teams meet tomorrow at noon in the final game of their
four-game series.
