SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA EDGES LE MOYNE 7-6, TEAMS PLAY THREE ONE-RUN GAMES IN WEEKEND SERIES
HAMMOND, La. - Southeastern Louisiana scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning to help hold off Le Moyne 7-6 in the final game of a three-game series at Alumni Field. The Lions (11-4) took two of three in a series in which all the games were decided by one run. Le Moyne (2-6) completed its spring break trip with a 2-6 mark. The Dolphins return to action on Friday at UNC Charlotte.
Junior shortstop Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) led Le Moyne offensively with three hits out of the No. 3 spot in the order. He paced the Dolphins with 15 hits and a .417 batting average over the club's first eight games.
Le Moyne jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Sophomore second baseman Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) reached on an error, junior third baseman Stephen Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Eastridge) singled Nandin to third and freshman Chris Edmonson's (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) sacrifice fly to left field scored the game's first run. Parrino singled home Crawford and after a Phil St. Amant (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) single, the Dolphins plated another run on a Southeastern Louisiana error.
The Lions answered with one run in the bottom of the third, one in the fourth and took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Nandin tripled in one run and scored another as Le Moyne made it a 6-5 game in the top of the sixth inning. Southeastern Louisiana plated an insurance run it would eventually need in the seventh. The Dolphins made it a one-run game on Parrino's RBI single in the eighth.
Le Moyne opens a four-game series at UNC Charlotte of the Atlantic 10 Conference on Friday. The series will be played at The Ballpark at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
