Le Moyne College Teams with The Salvation Army -Celebrating
30 Years of Saving Teens and Ensuring Future Services
SYRACUSE, NY - On Thursday, July 9, Le Moyne
College and the Salvation Army hosted a press conference
in the Curtin Special Events Room in the Le Moyne Student Center.
At that time, representatives from Le Moyne College, The Salvation
Army’s Young Leaders Forum, and other partners announced the
creation of a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to benefit Salvation
Army emergency services for young people. This announcement falls
on the 30th Anniversary of Booth House. The community event will
take place on the campus of Le Moyne College next June.
Booth House is the Syracuse Salvation Army’s shelter and
counseling service for runaway and homeless youth, ages 12-17.
Booth House provides counseling, respite and crisis services for
youth and their families in both residential and non-residential
settings. During times of crisis, youth are able to access shelter
services and get assistance. Over the past 30 years, more than
9,000 teens and their families have received help at Booth House.
“We are excited to announce Turn-Around Jumpers, a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament that will directly benefit young people in need. Players in the tournament can know that they can change lives - one hoop at a time,” Linda Wright, executive Director for The Salvation

dedicated to raising awareness and resources for our critical
programs for young people in crisis. We are grateful to Le Moyne
College and other partners for sharing this dream and making this
tournament a reality in June of 2010.”
“Finding ways to reach out and to help young people in our
community is central to our mission here at Le Moyne. Partnering
with the Salvation Army to support Booth House as the host site for
this Turn Around Jumper tournament is a genuine privilege for
us!,” stated Matthew Bassett, Athletic Director at Le Moyne
College.
The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area has been assisting people
in this community since 1883. Last year we served 30,000 people in
Onondaga County through 40 programs ranging from our food pantry,
shelters for the homeless, licensed, quality day care for
low-income families, outreach and counseling for runaway teens,
housing, parenting and life skills training for young mothers,
senior services and food and gifts for disadvantaged families
during the holidays.
