Le Moyne College softball coach Ed Mahar enters 2008 as the
interim head coach, makring his 15th season with the softball
program.
After leading the Dolphins to their second consecutive NCAA
Division II Championship appearance and the most NCAA wins in New
York state history, Mahar and head coach Ken King were honored as
the Division II NFCA/Speedline Coaching Staff of the Year.
A former bullpen catcher for the Syracuse Chiefs, he brings a vast
softball and baseball background to the team. His main duty with
the team is developing the pitching staff.
Mahar guided the nation's top pitching staff in 2003. The Dolphins
shut out 30 of 57 opponents and allowed only 34 earned runs in 57
games. The resulting 0.64 ERA topped the national rankings.
Junior Megan Vecchiano (22-4, 0.53 ERA) finished fourth in the
nation for ERA. Senior Marnie Sundberg (25-6, 0.66 ERA) graduated
as the program's all-time leader in ERA, shutouts, innings, wins
and strikeouts.
A 1979 graduate of Cayuga College, Mahar is a staff member at
Hillbrook Detention Center in Syracuse.
He is a member of the Le Moyne softball summer camp and winter
clinics staffs and handles all of the photography needs for the Le
Moyne athletic department.
