Matt Bassett, just the third person to hold the Director of Athletics position at the college, brings nearly 20 years of experience at the Division I, II and III levels. His experience includes time spent as an athletics staff member and coach at Binghamton University, Quinnipiac University, Green Mountain College and Syracuse University.

"I am grateful to Le Moyne College and the members of the search committee for the opportunity to lead a program with a rich athletics history at a school that values its academics," Bassett said. "It is a privilege and a privilege I take very seriously, to be chosen to lead a program that has had such legendary leadership. I have big shoes to fill, but I am looking forward to the challenge."

Bassett, 47, comes to Le Moyne College after nine years at Binghamton (N.Y.) University. He joined Binghamton as the Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1997 and was elevated to Senior Associate Director in 1999. As the leader of the athletic department's external advancement team, he oversaw the areas of major gifts, the annual appeal, alumni relations, corporate partners program, marketing, promotions and advertising, season tickets and summer sports camps. He also maintained direct supervision of the men's and women's basketball programs.

At Binghamton, Bassett spearheaded the athletic department's initiative in the design and construction of the $33 million, 156,000 square foot Binghamton University Events Center. He was involved in a campaign that raised more than $3 million for the facility. Bassett has served as the America East Men's Basketball Tournament director for each of the past two seasons as the tournament has drawn record crowds to the Binghamton facility.

Prior to his time at Binghamton, Bassett served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Services at Quinnipiac University. Bassett implemented an Academic Success Program which significantly raised the program's student-athlete grade point average over a four-year period.

Bassett began his professional career in athletics as a men's basketball coach. He was a member of the Syracuse University staff that advanced to the 1987 Final Four, served as the head coach at Green Mountain College (1987-91) and was an assistant coach at Quinnipiac University (1991-95).

A native of Clifton Park, N.Y., Bassett graduated from Excelsior College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. He earned a master's degree in Physical Education from Syracuse University in 1989 and a master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Albany in 1991. He also graduated from the Sports Management Institute in January 2006.

Bassett currently resides in Vestal with his wife Tracy, and two children Taylor (13) and Halie (11).
