The season is underway and several LeMoyne swimmers have displayed "championship potential" based on their early season performances. Speaking of championships, please note that we have two this year-the Northeast-10 at Southern Connecticut February 5-7,and, the UNYSCSA meets later in February that we have focused on since 1991. It is possible that our primary championship will be the NE-10 by the 2010-2011 season. The times are changing, but one thing never does....you have to work hard to swim fast.

A great deal of change for the better is also happening in our department. In the next couple of weeks, you will be receiving a letter from Athletic Director Matt Bassett outlining new projects and priorities in LeMoyne Athletics, many of which are already underway. In that letter you will also be asked to consider becoming a Gold Wave member for 2009-2010. You can support men's and women's swimming directly either by returning the pledge card from that mailing, or, you can click here and make your gift online.

We no longer worry about the cost of high-tech swim suits, which have been banned (thankfully) by the NCAA. Your pledges will be gratefully received for other needs, including special equipment, and, of course, the training trip. We will do everything possible to earn your continued support!

Sincerely,

September 16, 2009

Welcome to the 2009-2010 season. The Le Moyne Swimming and Diving program has added 12 new student-athletes, and when the competitions begin there will be some new names jumping out at you in the results. We are looking forward to a season that features a few interesting changes.

First, the Northeast-10 Championship is now in February, from the 5th to the 7th. It is no longer a Christmas tournament. We will still compete in the UNYSCSA, but the NE-10 meet takes on added importance.

Second, the "technical" suits have been absolutely and utterly banned by the NCAA. Swim meets will no longer feature the smell of wet rubber. It is now, as it should be; work hard, shave down and SWIM FAST.

Finally, as most of you know, our alumni/intersquad meet has been permanently placed on Family Weekend, 9/25-9/27, this year. It will be quite a festive atmosphere with alumni, athletes and parents from all the sports teams present at the same time. We have over 35 alumni committed to attending and for those of you still "on the fence," please come! It will be a terrific weekend. I hope to see you all on September 26 and remember, you don't actually have to swim in the alumni meet. Check out www.lemoynedolphins.com. There will be plenty going on.
