| May 12, 2009 Hello Dolphin Fans I haven’t written in a while, but it is not due to lack of desire to communicate. This season has just been so busy and exciting and has gone by super fast! The Lady Dolphins are doing great! Whoo Yaah! After Florida we were exhausted, but we continued our conditioning program of running a team mile once a week and challenging ourselves with a Jesuit hill run one practice. I was not considered to be in my right mind by some of the girls, but they are laughing about it now! Our regular season had a few bumps in it with a few losses that only served to teach us many lessons. Take away second chances, first strikes and first outs are too important and set the tone by scoring first. We learned that getting the bunt down can set up victory and swinging a disciplined bat is effective. No one will forget the lesson of team work that we all had to demonstrate with our home opener against Merrimack! What craziness! Thank God we all pulled together to get the field ready, it fired everyone up and we posted TWO Fantastic Wins! Our grounds crew is fabulous! Thanks Kathy and crew! Bus rides were not long due to the great driving by our great bus driver Jake and Caz. Limo. Our meals were all delivered to us the year by E-caters and Kevin Flannigan, what a convenience it was to have dinner ready and waiting after a long days work! Winning regular season and the NE-10 Tournament was Awesome! Thank you to all our fans for coming to show your support. The team broke and set many records this season! Click the link for the list compiled by the Sports Information office. Just to list a few; Kelly Schweikert set a new stolen base record and Delle Van Gorder and Kelcie Cashel also exceeded the old record. Jen Farrelly set a new career saves record and she and Jenna Vanacore both posted Nationally ranked ERAs. Many girls earned all conference honors and tournament honors. Our whole team has grown so much this year, it has been a total team effort winning and losing. Every failure and accolade cinched the girls closer together and closer to their goals. Post season has been very memorable and we are so excited to be part of the first ever NCAA II Super Regional playoff. We are Two games away from the World Series! We are so thankful that we have been blessed with good health this year. No serious injuries and not too many sick days! We ask for your prayers for continued wellbeing. We ask for you to be here this weekend when we host Georgian Court at our Home field. We have enough seeds and candy to get us to Virginia and Back! Thanks so very much! Push The Line! |

Two scrimmages down and a whole season to go!
One word to describe our Dolphins Softball Team - Aggressive!
The lady Dolphins had the opportunity to compete against Colgate
University in two preseason scrimmages and the final
conclusion is… we are right where we need to be. Of course
there seemed to be some nervous energy in the air as we introduced
ten freshmen into the lineup. The scrimmages were very helpful in
allowing both upperclassmen and freshmen to prove themselves worthy
of a starting position.
Our line up varied during both scrimmages giving everyone on the
19-person roster a chance to show off the skills they have been
diligently practicing over that past several weeks. It was a great
chance for the coaching staff to asses our strengths and weakness
against a well-established program with some very strong hitters.
The Colgate program is a first-class program and they treated us
with much respect, even made sure we received a great meal before
heading home. Thanks Colgate!
Back to the game…
The lady Dolphins hit some highs and some lows during these
scrimmages, but they each can come away confident that they have
everything they need to accomplish their goals this season. The
entire team has already showed off their signature moves, diving
and coming up with some great defensive catches!
Our pitching staff
looked very green, due to not throwing live batters until the
scrimmage. Overall, they were impressively very determined and
their mound demeanor will only help to make all four pitchers a
very disciplined force this season. Our staff has everything:
speed, movement, ball control, knowledge, and variety of styles.
All we need to do is continue to practice, practice, practice.
Jenna Vanacore, Jennifer Farrelly (Senior Captain), Kate Fowler,
and Brenna Klein all have very different styles of pitching. Each
athlete possesses a different set of strengths that compliment each
other nicely. This hopefully will help define our presence on the
mound throughout our season. This past week we have specifically
defined their workouts to maximize their pitching talents. It is
always challenging to take a pitcher who has thrown a number
pitches and tell her that you want her to focus on mastering two or
three pitches or even try and develop a new pitch this close to
season. (Unless, a pitcher is already showing habits that are
required by a certain pitch and has a good work ethic, and mind
set, I do not recommend trying to add any new pitches in season).
The great thing about the Dolphin pitching staff is that they are
strong and open minded and will complement each other well.
Can’t give away too much information……so come
see them shine this year on the field!
Behind the plate we will have Kim Baker, Caitlin O’Neil
(Senior Captain), and Kylie Scoville, three young ladies whom swing
a powerful bat. O’Neill, is a good pressure situation hitter
and that most likely is due to the fact that she has a very fun
personality and that keeps her from focusing on the ‘what
if’s’. She just gets up there and drives the ball not
worried about failing, if she happens to she is able to shrug it
off, make a joke and get on with the game. This style of play gives
the team balance and reminds our young girls that life is already
too serious, so enjoy softball. O’Neill will be graduating
this year and will be greatly missed, she is not the type of player
that is replaced easily. We look forward to making her senior year
one to remember. Baker saw lots of plate time last year. We hope to
give her a chance this year to refresh her legs, so that she can be
100% with her bat. Kim is a very intense athlete and makes a very
intimidating catcher. She also is very knowledgeable of reading
batters and utilizing her pitchers' strengths. We look forward to
watching Baker team up with who is in the circle and have a little
fun challenging batters. Kylie, a freshmen, has a wonderful work
horse mentality and as she has pulled her weight as a bullpen
catcher. She is determined to make the most of her opportunity to
play college ball.
Around the infield……
During the first scrimmage, freshman Leah Ford amazed the large
crowd of parents and fans with a great performance at first base
and the plate. Ford was not hesitant to show off her aggressive
approach to the ball and pulled off an exciting diving catch on a
screaming line drive.
Second base, Kelly Schweikert and Kelcie Cashel, both saw some
playing time…and showed off their superb range. Kelly, whom
everyone is familiar with at shortstop, will be pulling double-duty
at practice this year in an effort to be able to plug into both
second and short. The experience she offers up the middle is
exactly what we need to make second base solid. Her bat is strong
and definitely impacts our offensive game. The team has confidence
in her and that is so key. They know that she is more than capable
of being effective both defensively and offensively.
Freshmen Kelcie Cashel offers up a very traditional style of
second base play and will remind fans of the old school scrappy
player. She appears to be very comfortable with her backhand and it
is always exciting to see her reign a ball in. Come spring, she
will probably have dirt on her jersey most every game due to her
base running instincts. She has a way of getting herself to the
next base and reads the opposing defense without hesitation.
At short, Barb Shea also proved herself worthy of a place in the
line up by adding a powerful bat, consistent glove and of course,
game-ending diving line drive catch. This freshman is definitely a
young lady that will get your attention and hold it throughout the
remainder of the season. It can’t get more exciting than Barb
Shea at shortstop.
Third base, next to our pitching staff, offers up several
combinations as well. Senior Caitlin O’Neil and freshmen
Morgan Edmondson and Amanda Mosich will all see time on the hot
corner. O’Neill is very strong at third, but when she is
behind the plate the job will be left up to two very capable
freshmen. Morgan, who may also see some catching time, has a rocket
arm and a powerful bat. We have noticed that as she has becomes
more comfortable, she has taken on a more vocal leadership
position. Wait until she gets completely comfortable, she might be
a dangerous force to reckon with. Having depth at third is great!
Amanda Mosich gives the team that extra option. She also pitches
and even though that is not her focus right now, she again allows
for some versatility. A successful team always needs to have that
player that is willing and capable of offering more. We look
forward to seeing her develop and establishing herself.
Outfield……Have not forgotten about our last line of
defense!
All our outfielders were challenged during these scrimmages and
sometimes you just had to laugh, because as we know playing indoors
creates all kinds of circumstances. Lighting, rafters, equipment,
exit doors, bleachers, concrete walls, the list goes on. Our
outfielders should be prepared for most everything after this
winter season inside. Danielle "Delle" VanGorder (Captain), Amanda
Daum, Marci Silver, Kristin Brown, Kate Waltman and Bailey
Phillips will all be defending our outfield this season. Delle will
be utilizing her leadership qualities, speed and consistent arm to
prepare for any outfield battle that will take place. VanGorder is
also a good contact hitter, able to move runners and produce
RBI’s. She demonstrated that ability in the scrimmage by
taking advantage of Marci Silver’s textbook sacrifice bunt
that moved runners into scoring position. We will rely on Silver to
be a fundamental resource that gets the job done when asked. Bailey
Phillips will be making a transition from 2nd base to the outfield
this year, offering up more junior leadership and consistent, hard
core effort. To quote Bailey, “I can get that coach,”
is just an example of her attitude and exactly what a coach wants
in a defensive player, even more so, the right kind of attitude one
wants in an outfielder. Phillips’ confidence seems to be
instinctual and her desire to expect more of herself allows her to
make that split-second decision to push even her own boundaries.
Daum and Brown will flank centerfield with determination and strong
arms. Daum offers our team enthusiasm in the outfield as well as a
threatening stick at the plate. Brown, who is probably our most
quiet young lady on the team, is focused and swings a pretty
powerful bat. Kate Waltman, a.k.a. "Rock Star" will add depth to
our outfield. She is very quick and very coachable. We plan on
utilizing her speed on the base as well. Our coaching staff expects
our outfielders to provide our defense that extra something special
come game time!
Our fans were out in full-force for a scrimmage and we were
pleasantly surprised! Thank you parents for supporting your
daughters and their dreams. We enjoyed meeting all of you who were
in attendance and we hope to get to know you all better throughout
the season. Your support and the cookies are very much
appreciated!
With that review all said

January 8, 2009 Happy Holidays! I hope this letter finds everyone in
good spirits and ready for the New Year! The Le Moyne
Softball team is so very excited about the up coming season. The
ladies are all home or abroad enjoying their winter break,
celebrating and spending time with family. They are even dedicated
to getting in some extra conditioning after all the holiday
activities! |
Dear Dolphin Fans,
I am so very happy to say hello to all of you who follow this
program. I would like to thank you to everyone at Le Moyne
and whom I have met in the community that have made my family and I
feel so very welcomed. Our transition from the state of Georgia has
been much easier knowing we were moving to such a great place with
loyal fans and school support. It was snowing the day we unloaded
the Uhaul and about 16 degrees! A special thanks to Kim Pietro and
her friends who helped make the unload memorable and quick!
I hope everyone had a healthy Thanksgiving and have started to get
in the Christmas spirit!
Let’s talk softball!
The team has been busy finishing finals and the ladies are
determined to maintain their academic status in the athletic
department. Great job ladies for working hard to set a high
standard for the team!
During our Winter Individuals our Dolphins have been
“pushing the line!” and setting goals to hopefully push
into the post-season with great success. Coach DesLauriers and
I have been very impressed by the teams drive and dedication to
making this Spring count in the off season. We have a very talented
team and we expect that there will be many exciting times to look
forward to this season. Get ready to see some awesome softball from
all 20 young ladies. Our pitching and catching staff looks
strong and will offer us some definite diversity. Infield and
outfield have brought out the competitors, with eleven freshmen
competing at numerous positions. Having eleven freshmen sounds a
bit like a young team, but in combination with our returning
players, the Lady Dolphins offer up many experienced champions.
Champions are what make teams strong and able to get through
difficult situations and come out on top. Offensively, we hope to
be patient hitters, who are disciplined and consistent.
We have named four
captains to lead this squad, but we expect that throughout the
season our fans will get the chance see everyone of our girls rise
to the call of duty and showcase Le Moyne quality leadership. We
will highlight each captain in future blogs.
Thank you for all of your support for this program throughout the
years and in the future. I hope to continue the Le Moyne winning
tradition. Coach King, you have some big shoes to fill! Thanks for
the commitment you made to this program.
We look forward to seeing all our fans and parents at our games
come Spring and extend an invite to come watch our practices once
the weather gets warm! We would love to practice in front of an
audience. Till then, watch for our next blog update in two weeks. I
will be including a post Christmas wish list for those of you who
are in the giving spirit and look for bargains after the
holidays!
Please pray that we stay healthy and execute the mission statement
of our School.
Seven Innings Strong,
Coach Whitlock
